The Gretchen S. Vapnar, Community Crisis Center, names Maureen Manning Executive Director.

The Board of Directors for the Community Crisis Center of Elgin, Illinois is pleased to announce the selection of Maureen Manning as their new Executive Director, effective immediately.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Community Crisis Center.  The Center provides critical services to those impacted by crises, and I look forward to working with my team of professionals to meet the needs in our community,” Manning stated.

Manning, a resident of Elgin, has been with the Center since 1977.  Prior to her promotion, Maureen was Director of Client Services for the Center, overseeing all clinical programs and services, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency temporary shelter for women and children, individual and group counseling for those that are affected by homelessness, domestic violence, sexual assault, or those impacted by a medical, legal or financial issue.  She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and holds certifications including Certified Partner Abuse Intervention Professional and Certified Domestic Violence Professional. “Maureen was instrumental in developing many of the Center’s programs, including a batterer’s intervention program, a transitional living program and community education,” said Keith Brill, President of the Board of Directors for the Community Crisis Center.  “We are excited about the knowledge and experience that Maureen brings, as well as her longstanding relationships with key community leaders,” said Brill.

About the organization:
The Community Crisis Center, located in Elgin, Illinois, was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers to meet the needs of individuals and families in crisis. Employees provide comprehensive services to individuals and families in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or economic/ financial difficulties. We provide Safety, Hope, Advocacy, Respite and Education for those impacted by crisis and violence in Illinois.
Founded in 1975, the Crisis Center is one of the oldest domestic violence shelters in Illinois and was instrumental in organizing both the Illinois and National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. From 1975 to 1987, the Crisis Center was located in an historic Victorian Elgin home, which sheltered 14 people each night. By the mid 1980’s, a growing need for additional services and space forced the agency to seek a larger facility. In October 1987 the Community Crisis Center moved into the former Franklin Elementary School in Elgin’s Gifford Park neighborhood and is now home to 62 employees who provide services 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
