Teen Batterer Intervention Program

This program offers services to adolescents who have been abusive to a family member or dating partner.

Do these behaviors and attitudes describe a teenager you know?

  1. Feels people treat him/her unfairly
  2. Often is moody and angry
  3. Other family members are afraid of him/her
  4. Often brings a quick end to a problem by using abusive measures

As a member of the Teen Batterer Intervention Program, an individual will attend weekly group therapy sessions for a minimum of 26 weeks. The sessions are designed to help teens:

  1. Become aware that violence and abuse are never okay
  2. Learn to take personal responsibility for their thoughts, feelings, and actions
  3. Identify feelings and express them in a productive manner
  4. Recognize the warning signs precipitating an abusive incident
  5. Develop an action plan to resolve conflict in a non-violent manner
  6. Learn and practice assertive communication skills

This program is available to individuals ages 13-18 who have been ordered to seek counseling through court/probation or who have decided to attend voluntarily. An initial assessment is done in part with the teen and parent/guardian together, and in part with the teen individually. This assessment will determine if the Community Crisis Center’s Teen BIP is the best fit for the individual’s needs or if another option would be more appropriate. For those adolescents who are ordered to counseling through Kane County probation, the assessment and counseling fees may be subsidized. For all others, counseling fees are available on a sliding scale. For more information please call (847) 697-2380.
