Children’s Caring Garden

With the help of the Sow Little Thyme Garden Club, our children planted a garden in front the Crisis Center this spring and they continue to care for the garden and water the plants each week. In our garden we have lettuce, onions, radishes, tomatoes, zucchini, beans and marigolds. As the children watch the vegetables grow, they are learning to care for the plants, watch the changes as they grow and now the children are looking forward to harvesting the lettuce and other plants to make salads for their evening meals.

Last week as the children watered the garden we heard them say “Look, my seeds are growing”, “I need to check on my plants today” and “Look there is a tomato on my plant, can I pick it?” We explained that the tomato needed to grow more and become red before we can pick it.

Thank you to the Sow Little Thyme Garden Club fro preparing the garden plot, providing the plants and seeds, helping us plant and care for the garden.
